Man’s hand partially severed in machete attack

A man has been hospitalised after his hand was partially severed and his leg slashed in a nasty machete attack in Wollongong this morning.

It happened at a property on Northcliffe Drive, in Warrawong, shortly before 4.30am.

It’s believed the 25-year-old man was in the rear courtyard of the property, when he was approached by another man carrying a large machete.

Police have been told a confrontation then took place, before the armed man sliced the 25-year-old in the arm and legs with the machete.

The attacker then fled the scene before emergency services were called.

The victim was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of a serious hand injury and a cut to the back of his legs.

A crime scene has since been established and investigations are underway.
