Man’s throat, wind pipe sliced open in horror angle grinder accident

AN elderly man has had his throat sliced open by an angle grinder in a horror accident at a house in Sydney’s west.

The man in his 70s suffered horrific injuries when the blade on the angle grinder he was using to repair a fence at the Oleander Road address in St Marys partially disintegrated and caught his neck around 9am.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was deployed to the scene where its specialist doctor and critical care paramedic treated the man whose wind pipe was exposed.

The man was placed in an induced coma and intubated at the scene to manage his breathing before he could be transported to hospital.

He was taken by road ambulance to Westmead Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
