Mansion fire breaks out on the Gold Coast
There are fears humans may have been trapped inside a burning mansion in Nerang this morning.
The unoccupied property on Eden Court burst into flames around 1.30am, though fire fighters reportedly struggled to get it under control due to a lack of access to water.
Crews took over two hours to get the flames under control and remain on scene this morning.
The roof of the property collapsed during the blaze, which luckily didn’t pose a threat to nearby properties.
It’s understood squatters may have been living in the upstairs level, and emergency services were this morning unable to confirm whether they were able to safely evacuate.
Police have confirmed the fire may have been deliberately lit, and say they will commence investigations this morning.
Senior Sergeant Peter Venz told Channel 7 they still haven’t been able to inspect the entire property.
“We don’t know how the fire started or how… being that there appears to be squatters living in the place, the concern is that there still may be some people upstairs,” Sergeant Venz said.
Paramedics have confirmed they were in attendance though did not identify any patients and no transport was required.
