Maroons celebrating win in origin one

Queensland is one up in the State of Origin Series after a tight win over a New South Wales outfit at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

Game one was low-scoring with the Maroons winning 6-4 on Wednesday night.

The Maroons seemed to dominate early on, Johnathan Thurston securing a penalty in the 15th minute.

Dane Gagai crossed first for Queensland at the end of the first half.  He also stopped Josh Mansour from scoring in the second.

Boyd Cordner scored the opening try for the Blues.

It did seem at times to be a bit clumsy out on the field with both sides making plenty of errors.

The performance of referees Gerard Sutton and Ben Cummins has been called into question by the Blues but Queensland Coach Kevin Walters didn’t seem to worried telling media the refs could stay.

Game two will be held at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday June 22.
