Masked man uses axe to steal till from coffee shop

A Gold Coast coffee shop worker has been confronted by a masked bandit brandishing a small axe, during an armed robbery.

The man used the axe to cut through the cords of two cash registers at the cafe on Eggersdorf Road in Ormeau, around 5.30am Sunday.

He then swiped one of the tills, before demanding more cash from the female worker.

Police say she handed over some money and the robber took off in a recent model, blue Holden Commodore with distinctive mag wheels.

“The man had his face covered with what appeared to be a white t-shirt wrapped around his face,” Police explained in a statement.

“(He) was last seen wearing a yellow high-vis vest with long, dark sleeves, dark shorts and tanned work boots with no laces.”
