Some suburbs are being pelted with heavy rain. Lightning strikes have been reported in Coomera.
The heaviest falls are being seen from Logan in the north to Byron Bay in the south and inland to Boonah.
So far Weather Bureau stats show that six millimetres of rain has landed in Beaudesert and a little over two at the Southport Seaway.
215 homes and businesses in the Scenic Rim lost power on Thursday morning. Suburbs affected include Merryvale, Moorang, Mount Walker and Rosevale.
The cause of the outage is under investigation and Energex will provide an update at 7:30am.
