Australia’s star striker Sam Kerr will soon be headed to Europe, after signing on with the Chelsea Football Club Women.
Her new two-and-a-half year deal is rumoured to be worth around $2 million, which would make her one of the highest-paid female stars.
The 26-year-old is expected to join up with the Blues when the mid-season transfer window opens – in time for the second half of the 2019/20 Barclays Women’s Super League season.

She says she’s excited to challenge herself in a new league.
“Chelsea is a prestigious club who feel like a great cultural fit for me.
“Their success on the pitch and commitment to women’s football were important factors in making this decision.
“It’s going to be a new challenge and experience, and I think it’ll only better me as a footballer.
“The opportunity to go to Europe to play, plus continue to play with Matildas as we look to Tokyo, it’s pretty exciting.
“I am so grateful for my time playing in the NWSL and W-League, and for the incredible opportunities I’ve experienced.
“I want to thank my team mates and the coaches, I have grown so much for playing both in the US and Australia and I would not be where I am without the support.
“We are in an amazing moment for women’s football and I’m hopeful that this transfer can help move us forward,” Kerr said.
