Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate is set on creating one of the best dive sites in the world.
The Council has had their proposal for a $2.5 million underwater dome shortlisted by the State Government.
Cr Tate said they’re prepared for the build and hopes a local company wins the tender.

“As far as I’m concerned the location is all shovel ready,” he said.
“We’ll be able to have a dive precinct that has a flourishing marine life.”
Council’s plans don’t end there, they want to sink a warship alongside the underwater dome.
Mayor Tate believes this could become one of the best dive locations in the world.
However, the State and Federal Governments negotiations over the price have stalled.
The Department of Defence insists it has offered the frigate for $12.5 million but the State Government says the true costs would be upwards of $20 million.
Cr Tate was bullish about the argument saying he might just pay for both the warship and the underwater dome.
Queensland State Member for the Broadwater, David Crisafulli, is concerned the underwater dome announcement is a smokescreen.
“We shouldn’t say it’s too difficult to scuttle a dive ship,” he told MyGC.
“The proposed development would complement, rather than replace it, let’s work together to get these both off the ground.”
