IF YOU’RE looking for the Gold Coast Mayor, you will need to head past Evandale and onto Southport.
Tom Tate has announced the Office of the Mayor will relocate to Southport as Council continues to position the central suburb as the City’s official CBD.
The Mayor said the move makes economic sense given the facilities in the existing City of Gold Coast Branch Office had been underutilised for decades.

“The decisions are made at Evandale but the deals are done in Southport and I want to send an unambiguous signal that our new CBD is open for business,” Cr Tate said.
“The timing is right for the move with $5 billion of investment planned or underway including the expansion of the Broadwater Parklands, the Health and Knowledge Precinct and commencement of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ athletes’ village.”
The Mayor hopes to lead by example and prompt the State Government to accelerate its decentralisation plans by bringing at least one government department to the Gold Coast.
$200 million worth of projects have been lodged with Council since the State Government declared the Southport area a Priority Development Area (PDA).
