Mayor Tom Tate returns to council after bowel cancer surgery

MAYOR Tom Tate has returned to work two weeks after walking out of hospital following bowel cancer surgery.

The mayor chaired the last full council meeting of the year at Council Chambers on Friday.

Speaking to reporters, Mayor Tate said it was great to be back and thanked everyone for their support.

“I had a lot of family time, which was wonderful, but basically i’m still feeling a little tentative, he said.

“To sit at home and not do much, is against my character, so its wonderful to come back.”

The Mayor said he was looking forward to a bigger and better 2018.

“We’ll have the commonwealth games and so many other wonderful events and I look forward to overcoming this illness and coming back stronger.”
