IT WAS thought to be a sporting match made in heaven, but Rory McIlroy has called off his engagement to Caroline Wozniacki, only days after sending out the invitations.
The former world No.1 golfer admitted the issuing of the invites had made him aware that he was not ready for marriage.
News.com.au reports, the 25-year-old Northern Irishman has also split with the former world No.1 tennis player.

“There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people,” he explained through a statement.
“The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails,” McIlroy said.
“I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had.”
The pair met almost three years ago in Munich at a David Haye-Wladimir Klitschko boxing match before announcing their engagement last New Year’s Eve in Sydney.
