A MELBOURNE man who claims he was high on methamphetamine when he decided to randomly crash tackle and rape a 20-year-old Gold Coast triathlete in 2010 has been sentenced to eight years jail.
Richard Williams, 35, pleaded guilty to raping the young university student on Gooding Drive at Merrimac in the Southport District Court on Monday.
He also pleaded guilty to assault with intent to rape and deprivation of liberty.

The Judge sentenced him to eight years jail with the eligibility of parole in 2016 after the court heard he had no criminal history and a medical report highlighted he was a “low risk” of reoffending given he refrained from using drugs.
