Melbourne could be facing its sixth lockdown as soon as this weekend, as authorities report more cases of local transmission today.
There were six local infections reported in this morning’s update, but between that report and the press conference at 11.45 am, there were two more cases again.
Authorities are still investigating three of the cases confirmed from yesterday, which includes the one that was reported yesterday; a school teacher.

It’s understood almost three thousand people linked to the school are now in lockdown, as authorities scramble to track down any other contacts.
Another case that is being investigated is an infection in Maribyrnong, with the source of which currently unknown.
The other three cases are all linked to the current outbreaks and were in quarantine during their infectious period.
There were another two cases reported today, but they will be included in tomorrow’s figures with more information.
Exposure sites continue to come live throughout the morning, but so far include cafes, a supermarket, petrol station, pharmacy and gym across various northern suburbs.
“No one should be banking on restrictions easing next Tuesday,” Premier Daniel Andrews told reporters this morning.
