Men arrested, charged over series of explosions in Melbourne

Two men have been arrested and charged following a series of explosions in Melbourne.

Investigators from the Arson and Explosives Squad arrested the duo on Silvan Road at Olinda, in the city’s east, just before 2.30am this morning.

The men are alleged to have carried out several explosions in bushland in the Olinda area dating back to November 2015.

Police said the investigation was not counter terrorism related.

A 21-year-old Heathmont man has been charged with possess and manufacture explosives, possess ecstasy, possess amphetamine and possess cannabis.

A 20-year-old Montrose man has been charged with possess and manufacture explosives and possess cannabis.

Both men have been bailed to appear before Ringwood Magistrate’s Court on 21 February, 2017.
