Men charged after police find 85kg of cannabis in truck near Byron

TWO men have been charged after police uncovered 85kg of cannabis hidden in the back of a Pantech truck near Byron Bay overnight.

Officers attached to Byron Bay Highway Patrol pulled over the truck on the Pacific Highway at Ewingsdale for a traffic offence around 11.25pm.

Upon speaking with the 23-year-old driver and his 24-year-old passenger, police became suspicious and searched the rear of the vehicle where they discovered the massive haul.


“Officers allegedly found 186 packages of cannabis with a total weight of 85kg,” NSW Police said.

The men were arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station where they were both charged with supply prohibited drug greater than commercial quantity, and drug possession.

They were refused bail and will appear in Ballina Local Court toady.
