Metal bar wielding thief charged with robbing Southport servo

A man has appeared in court, charged with robbing a Southport service station armed with a metal bar.

Around 7.15pm, the 23-year-old man entered the servo on Smith Street, demanding cigarettes and cash.

A member of the public was in the store at the time of the robbery and managed to disarm the man, pinning him to the floor until police arrived.

The man, from Deception Bay appeared in court today charged with armed robbery.

He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court again on September 5.
