Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne is being carefully monitored in hospital as she recovers from pancreatic surgery after a race fall.
Her brother Patrick Payne revealed on Monday morning the jockey may have to have her pancreas removed if it doesn’t heal bit all signs at this stage are positive.
It comes after Payne fell off her horse during a race at Mildura last week.

Payne’s family have been vocal about wanting the young jockey to retire, considering this is not the first time she has spent time in hospital following a race fall.
In 2004, Payne fell heavily during a race at Sandown Racecourse, leaving her with a fractured kill and bruising to her brain.
While she was recovering she fell again, fracturing her wrist.
Despite her family’s retirement pleas, they have said they will continue to support Payne if she chooses to return to the saddle.
