Miss Universe host who stuffed up winner announcement invited back for 2016 pageant

Despite announcing the wrong Miss Universe winner this week, Steve Harvey has surprisingly been invited back to host the 2016 pageant.

There was speculation organisers would never hire the presenter again after the monumental stuff up.

However chief content officer Mark Shapiro said Harvey would be “absolutely” welcomed back to host next year.

“He was funny, he was informative, he’s high energy, he’s got a great following… I definitely want him back, and I would hate to see him not come back. He’s going to want a shot to redeem himself,” he told Jim Rome’s CBS Sports Radio Show.

Harvey announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner during the finals on Sunday (US time), before informing the audience and Gutierrez that he had made a mistake and read the wrong name on the card.

“The first runner-up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines!” he said at the time.

There are reports Harvey had skipped rehearsals for the final announcement and was seen gambling and drinking at a Las Vegas casino mere hours before the pageant finals.
