Missing man’s body pulled from Tweed River

The body of a missing man has been pulled from the Tweed River after he apparently jumped from a houseboat during his 30th birthday celebrations.

Emergency services were called to the boat, which was moored in the river near Chinderah, around 2.30am on Saturday.

A major search was launched before the man’s body was located in waters nearby at around 2.40pm.

An investigation is now underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident amid reports there may have been a disagreement on board the vessel earlier in the evening.

NSW Police have said alcohol was likely a factor and that the conditions in the river were ‘problematic’ given the recent flooding in the region.

A report will now be prepared for the coroner.
