Melbourne man charged with funding terrorism

UPDATE: A MAN’S been charged following a number of counter-terrorism raids in Melbourne on Tuesday morning.

A joint operation between Victorian and Australian Federal Police saw over 100 officers carry out searches across five Melbourne suburds.

Police say a 23-year-old has been charged with funding a terror organistaion.


The allege he supplied more than $12,000 to support a US citizen fighting in Syria.

It’s understood he funded this person to travel from the United States to Syria and they’re currently involved in fighting

The AFP say the search warrants were the culmination of an eight month investigation including information supplied by the FBI.

The man is expected to front Court later this afternoon.


EARLIER:POLICE have confirmed more counter-terrorism raids are underway across Melbourne.

Victoria and Australian Federal police launched the raids on homes at five suburbs on Tuesday morning.

A number of search warrants are being carried out in Seabrook, Kealba, Meadow Heights, Broadmeadows and Flemington as part of the joint operation.

At least one man has been taken away by police in Seabrook although there’s no confirmation as to whether he’s been arrested.

It comes after roughly a fornight after similar operations were carried out in Sydney as well as though suburbs around Brisbane.
