The Gold Coast’s tourism industry is in for another boost with more direct flights coming to the city.
Jetstar will launch flights between the glitter strip and Canberra from mid-September.
Currently Virgin only has one daily direct flight between the two cities while Qantas only has three direct flights a week.

Jetstar plans to launch its Gold Coast-Canberra service with four flights per week operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
“For Canberrans, having a low-fares direct service to the Gold Coast will be welcome news, with the region consistently ranked as one of Australia’s most popular family holiday destinations,” Jetstar CEO Gareth Evans said.
The news is also good for Gold Coasters who want to fly to the capital or are heading to the New South Wales ski fields.
The airline has also announced direct flights between Canberra and Melbourne that will start in July.
“This is a real vote of confidence from Jetstar in the Canberra market,” ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr said.
“It’s going to work both ways for us: it’s going to be great for Canberrans who want to get to the Gold Coast or down to Melbourne.
“But it’s also going to open the door for thousands of extra tourists to be able to get to Canberra in an affordable way.”
