More than 1000 Gold Coast homes without power

MANY Gold Coast residents have been left without power tonight as a result of this afternoons storm.

Heavy wind and rain struck the Coast around 5.00pm Thursday, with more than 642 homes in Upper Coomera and 210 homes in Oxenford left without power.

110 homes in Cedar Creek and 52 in Luscombe have also been affected.

The outage has caused chaos for motorists, with the lights at the major Oxenford/Coomera intersection out.

Police are currently at the scene directing traffic, however motorists have been advised to drive with caution.

Energex crews are currently working to restore power to more than 1000 homes.
