More than 1500 schoolies to converge on South Stradbroke Island for Dance Party

Schoolies preparing to descend on McLarens Landing at South Stradbroke Island for the Schoolies Do it Better dance party today are being warned to expect a heavy police presence.

More than 1500 schoolies are expected to converge on Mariners Cove, Main Beach for boat transport to McLarens Landing for a schoolies dance party which is planned from midday until 9pm.

With previous events at McLarens Landing resulting in patrons requiring medical evacuation from the island due to suspected drug overdoses, Queensland Police say they are well prepared for this event.

Police patrols are scheduled from 10am at both Mariners Cove and the Surfers Paradise Transit Centre with police warning that if you intend to bring illicit drugs to either venue for the trip over to South Stradbroke Island it’s not a matter of if you will be caught, but when.

A previous event in late October this year saw two female patrons issued Notices to Appear for alleged possession of dangerous drugs and both patrons were excluded from the event.

One male patron had to be medically evacuated from the island due to suspected ecstasy consumption and another male patron was issued a Notice to Appear on the island due to an allegation of possession of cannabis.

Whilst Queensland Police wish to encourage schoolies to have a great time at the event, the possession and supply of dangerous drugs will never be tolerated.

The first boat back to South Stradbroke Island is scheduled for a 7pm arrival back to Mariners Cove. The last boat is scheduled for a 9pm departure from South Stradbroke Island.

Police from Runaway Bay, Gold Coast Water Police and Gold Coast Rapid Action and Patrols will be in attendance both on and off the island.
