Mother charged over death of newborn baby

A 22-YEAR-OLD woman been charged over the death of her newborn baby after she allegedly gave birth at a home in NSW and disposed of the infant’s body.

The woman is said to have given birth at a house in Newport, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in October last year before attending Mona Vale Hospital for treatment.

Police were called and later found the baby dead inside the home.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death got underway.

Following the protracted investigation, the woman was arrested on Thursday and charged with ‘mother alone conceal birth by disposing body’.

The 22-year-old was released on conditional bail and is due to appear in Manly Local Court on June 7.
