Mother and child seriously injured in crash on Pacific Highway

A woman and her 11-year-old son have been seriously injured in a crash on the Pacific Highway on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Police said the accident happened on a stretch of the highway at Kundabung, south of Kempsey, at around 5.50am on Sunday.

The woman was travelling with her 11-year-old son and five-year-old daughter when the family car veered off the highway and into a metal railing.

The 33-year-old woman and her son were both seriously injured and taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

The woman’s five-year-old daughter escaped unhurt and has since been placed into the care of a family member.

As investigations into the cause of the crash continue, police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the accident or the moments leading up to it to contact police or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police have used the time to remind motorist to plan their trips and to take regular rest breaks, particularly in the extensive road work areas on the Pacific Hwy through the Mid North Coast area.
