Mother of baby found washed up on Gold Coast beach charged by Police

The mother of a nine-month old girl whose body washed up on a beach at Surfers Paradise, has now been charged in relation to the baby’s death.

The girl was discovered in the early hours of Monday, November 19 on the beach near Staghorn Avenue.

It’s believed she had been in the water for several days after allegedly being murdered at Tweed Heads.

It was revealed the family were homeless and regularly travelled between The New South Wales north coast and the Gold Coast.

The girl’s 47-year-old father remains behind bars charged with her murder.

A 23-year-old mother was arrested on the Gold Coast yesterday and fronted Southport Magistrates Court where her extradition to New South Wales was approved.

She was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where she was charged with fail to provide for child, causing danger of death.

She was refused bail and will front Byron Bay court today.

Investigations into the baby’s death are continuing.
