Motorcyclist ‘very lucky’ after colliding with metal on the M1

Paramedics say a motorbike rider is very lucky to have escaped injury, in a serious crash on the M1 this morning.

The motorbike collided with some metal that fell off a ute in the northbound lanes through Ormeau around 5.00am.

The rider was able to control his bike before jumping off, only sustaining minor injuries.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, where they briefly assessed the man before transporting him to hospital for further treatment.

Critical Care Paramedic Scott Brown says it’s amazing he wasn’t seriously injured.

“Very lucky, because anything that comes off a vehicle at high speed such as on the M1 can have huge ramifications for anyone that’s behind them.

“So considering what’s happened, he’s very lucky,” Mr Brown said.

It comes only a few weeks after a motorbike rider was tragically killed on the M1, after he collided with a ladder that had come off a ute.

There were delays on the M1 around the time of the crash, but they have since eased.

It’s about time there was a blitz on tradie utes and trucks.
You see them everyday with insecure loads and on their mobile phones.
No regard for anyone else on the road.

I totally agree. I am really scared now if I have to drive behind any vehicle, especially an open truck or Ute, which has an unsecured or uncovered load in its tray.

I don’t think vehicles with any uncovered or unrestrained loads should be allowed on the freeway. It’s just too dangerous.
