Motorists are being asked to think about their driving while travelling on Hope Island Road following a spike in accidents due to wet weather.
Gold Coast Police are urging people to drive to the conditions in order to avoid accidents occurring on the notorious strip of road.
“In the past few weeks we have seen a dramatic change in our weather. This has possibly contributed to an increase in traffic accidents on Hope Island Road.”

Police say an increase in heavy rain after a dry spell is what causes oil embedded in the road to come to the surface, catching drivers unaware.
“Motorists are reminded that they must drive to the weather conditions and this may require a change in driving strategies.”
