[watch] Mudgeeraba man accused of stealing electricity to grow cannabis crop

A MAN is accused of stealing electricity to power an elaborate hydroponic set up at a home in Mudgeeraba.

Police from the Gold Coast’s Rapid Action and Patrol squad raided the 37-year-old man’s Tuena Street home on Wednesday morning.

During a search of the property, officers allegedly found 25 cannabis plants growing inside a large hydroponic tent.

More than 16 kilograms of ‘cannabis material’, hydroponic chemicals, equipment, lights, steroids and drug utensils were also found at the address.

Police said the drugs and the items used to grow the drugs were found inside the house and a shed on the property.

The 37-year-old Mudgeeraba man was arrested at the scene and charged with several drug offences, including producing and possessing dangerous drugs and stealing electricity.

He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday, 28 October.
