Gunman dead after opening fire in Toronto, killing woman and injuring 13 others

UPDATE @ 3.00 PM | A woman is dead, a young girl is critical and 13 others have been injured in a shooting in Toronto.

It’s understood the gunman opened fire near a restaurant in Toronto’s Greektown district around 10pm Sunday local time.

Police confirmed at a news conference a short time ago that one of those killed was a woman, while a young girl is in a critical condition.


Thirteen others have also been rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

The motive for the attack is currently unknown, however police confirmed the shooter died following an exchange of gunfire with officers.

EARLIER @ 2.00 PM | Canadian police and emergency services are responding to a shooting which reportedly has resulted in multiple people being taken to hospital.

Police haven’t confirmed any deaths but local television CP24 is showing images of multiple ambulances and other first responders treating bodies.

Local reporters said 10 people have been shot and taken to the hospital.

There are reports the shooter has been killed.

Emergency crews were called to the scene in Toronto’s Riverdale suburb around 10 PM local time.

Local reporter Jeremy Cohn has tweeted about the incident.

“(There are) reports of at least 10 victims including children,” he wrote.

“Patients are spread across several blocks in the area.

“There’s a mass casualty response from Toronto Medics and Toronto Fire Service.”
