A mother who forced her little girl to stand outside a Sydney restaurant with her hands while she repeatedly smacked her because she would not eat her lunch, has been convicted of domestic assault.
The 40-year-old woman appeared in Newtown Local Court yesterday after pleading guilty to assaulting her five-year-old daughter in July.
The shocking abuse was caught on camera by a passerby, who witnessed the mother slap her daughter in the stomach several times as well as hitting her with the back of a closed fist as she yelled at the child who was crying hysterically.

The Daily Telegraph reports the child was more focused on her ballet outfit that she was wearing than eating her lunch, which resulted in the punishment.
In court on Tuesday, the mother sobbed as she was sentenced to an 18-month good behaviour bond and fined $1200.
