Man and woman critical, kids stable after horror crash in NSW Riverina

A MAN and woman have been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a horror crash in the NSW Riverina.

Police said the two-car crash occurred along the Hume Highway at Tumblong, around 15 kilometres south of Gundagai, at 5.15am this morning.

It’s understood a northbound Toyota Prado crashed into a silver Toyota Tarago parked at the Yellow Creek rest area.


Four people – a man, a woman and two children – were sitting in Toyota Tarago at the time. They were all injured and rushed to the Wagga Rural Referral Hospital.

The adults have since both been airlifted to St George Hospital in a critical condition while the children remain in Wagga. Police say they are in a stable condition.

The female driver of the Toyota Prado was taken to Gundagai Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests before being transferred to the Wagga hospital in a stable condition.Two children in the Prado were uninjured.

A crime scene has been established and will be examined by officers from the Cootamundra Local Area Command and the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

One northbound lane of the Hume Highway remains closed.
