Murder charge laid after mum passes away from horror DV injuries

UPDATE @ 1.15 PM | The man now accused of murdering his former partner before abducting their 11-month-old son has had his case adjourned in court.

The charges were today upgraded to murder after the 25-year-old mother passed away from her injuries in hospital.

She was allegedly assaulted in a Southport apartment on Saturday night, November 27, and was found unresponsive by emergency services.

An Amber Alert was then issued for her son.

A 34-year-old Crestmead man was arrested hours later and the baby was found safe.

The woman was taken to the intensive care unit but has now passed away.

The case was briefly mentioned in Richlands Court this afternoon and has been adjourned to Southport Court on January 21.

EARLIER: @12.30 PM | A 25-year-old mum has tragically passed away from horrific injuries in hospital after an alleged assault and child abduction in Southport over the weekend.

Police were called to an apartment along Como Crescent in Southport shortly after 5.00 pm on November 27, where they found the 25-year-old with critical injuries and unresponsive.

A 34-year-old man had allegedly assaulted and strangled the woman, before taking an 11-month-old baby from the apartment which sparked an Amber Alert.

He was arrested in Oxley later that night and the baby was found safe and well.

The woman was immediately taken to the intensive care unit but has tragically passed away.

The man’s assault charges have now been upgraded to murder and he’s expected to front court today.

Investigations are still continuing and a grey Mazda CX9 has been seized.
