Murder charge after man shot dead on footpath outside Melbourne home

UPDATE at 12:30 PM on Thursday | A MAN has been charged with murder following the shooting death of a man outside a house in Melbourne’s west.

The 37-year-old victim was allegedly shot dead on a street in Deer Park shortly after 2pm AEDT on Wednesday.

The man’s body was found lying in a pool of blood on a footpath outside a house on Poole Street, near Station Road.


Police in bulletproof vests swooped on the street with their guns drawn and arrested a 48-year-old man.

He has since been charged with one count of murder and is due to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

Police said both men are from Deer Park and are believed to have been known to each other.

UPDATE at 2:20 PM on Wednesday | ONE man is dead and another is in custody following a shooting in Melbourne’s west.

Heavily armed police swooped on Poole Street in Deer Park around 2.30pm AEDT following reports of shots fired.

It’s understood officers arrived to find a man dead in the street, his body found lying on a footpath outside a house.

Police have confirmed a second man, believed to be known to the victim, has been taken into custody.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the man’s death are yet to be determined, police said.

More than a dozen police vehicles swooped on the suburban street, with witnesses reporting seeing officers in bulletproof vests approaching a house with their guns drawn.

The area remains locked down.

FIRST at 1:45 PM on Wednesday | POLICE have swooped on a suburb in Melbourne’s west with their guns drawn amid reports of a shooting.

It’s understood emergency services were called to Poole Street in Deer Park around 2.30pm AEDT.

According to witnesses, there is a heavy police presence in the area, including officers in bulletproof vests.

A witness told 3AW “14 police cars” had surrounded a house near the corner of Poole Street and Station Road.
