Murder probe after body found in burnt out car in NSW

A major investigation is underway after a man’s body was discovered inside a burnt-out vehicle in Sydney’s south-west.

Emergency crews made the shock discovery around 6pm last night, after being called to reports of a car on fire on Hume Road at Smithfield.

The man, believed to be aged in his 20s, is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established at the site of the blaze, with detectives appealing for anyone who may have any dashcam footage to come forward.

At this stage, police say the death is being treated as suspicious, with the homicide squad called in to investigate.

A post-mortem examination will also be conducted to determine the cause of death.
