Murder probe after young Qld woman found dead

A major murder investigation is underway after a young woman died after being stabbed in the neck in Townsville.

Emergency crews were called to Riverway Drive at Condon just before 7.30pm on Friday, following reports a woman had been found injured on a footpath outside a unit block.

Detective Acting Inspector Jason Shepherd said the 29-year-old is believed to have been stabbed inside a unit before collapsing on the footpath.

“There was a lot of blood on the floor,” Detective Acting Insp Shepherd said.

“The neighbours have heard a noise, they’ve looked out and they’ve seen the lady laying on the footpath.”

She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition.

Sadly, she died a short time later.

A crime scene has been declared and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
