Murwillumbah family’s plea for help to bring their son home from hospital

THE TWEED community is banding together to help a Murwillumbah family whose son has Paraplegia following a motocross accident.

Up-and-coming motorcycle star Blake Colleton was seriously injured at the National Motocross Championships in Victoria back in May.

The 17-year-old clipped another rider’s handle bars on an up-ramp of a jump which launched him and he fell down hard on the other side, suffering major injuries to his back, T5, T6 and damaged his spinal cord.

He was rushed to The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne where he underwent an operation and spent the following two weeks in recovery, before being relocated to Brisbane’s PA Hospital

Blake’s family is hoping to bring him home from the Spinal Injury Unit, but needs financial help to modify their house as well as ongoing medical costs and rehabilitation.

Almost 14,000 people have ‘liked’ a Facebook page set up for fundraising for Blake, and anyone who can help out is urged to do so.

In an emotional plea from Blake’s mum, she describes him as “a very determined young man with his whole life ahead of him”.
