A Muslim teenager has been arrested after teachers phoned police when he brought a homemade clock in to school.
Aspiring engineer Ahmed Mohamed was proud of his creation that was built from a pencil case and wanted to show it off to his teacher.
“I built a clock to impress my teacher but when I showed it to her, she thought it was a threat to her,” Ahmed told reporters. “It was really sad that she took the wrong impression of it.”

After the 14-year-old was taken into custody, police soon realised that the clock was harmless and released him without any charges.
High profile figures including President Barack Obama and Mark Zuckerberg have spoken out in support of Mohamed and encouraged him to ‘keep building’.
Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great. — President Obama (@POTUS) September 16, 2015
