MYSTERY surrounds how a single father ended up unconscious with critical injuries in the car park of a Gold Coast shopping centre last week.
Dylan Simpson, 36, was found lying motionless and covered in blood in the lower level car park of Coolangatta’s Showcase shopping centre last Wednesday night.
His jaw had been dislocated, his eye socket smashed, and three of his vertebrae cracked in his neck and lower back.

It remains unclear how the injuries were inflicted.
The 36-year-old had been drinking with friends at the nearby Greenmount Surf Club and last remembers walking home north along Marine Parade between 7.30-8pm.
Dylan’s brother Grant Periott is pleading with anyone that may have any information, or that may have seen anything, to come forward.
He believes his brother was savagely beaten and his body dumped from an upper level car park.
“He was covered in blood, and there was a pool of blood at a point under the car park where he dropped from the entrance,” Grant said.
He said Dylan appeared to have gotten himself to a set of nearby escalators where he was found by a security guard.
“It is not that big of a town – someone has to have seen something.”
“This kind of violence should not be tolerated in our community.
“If you think violence can solve a problem, then you are the problem.”
Although in a stable condition, Dylan remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Gold Coast University Hospital.
“We have not received a full prognosis yet,” Grant said.
“He has just had an MRI (scan) to determine what may need to be done to his spine and other breaks that have been detected.”
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or Coolangatta Police.
