Space fans have been sent into a frenzy, with NASA set to announce a major science finding from their ongoing exploration of Mars.
Jim Green, director of planetary science at NASA and Michael Meyer, lead scientist for the Mars Exploration Program will be leading the announcement.
There are rumours NASA will announce the discovery of flowing water on the planet, as Lujendra Ojha – a Georgia Institute of Technology grad-student who in 2011 released a study that suggested liquid salt water flowed on Mars during the warmer months – will also be attendance.

If flowing water has been discovered, there is also the prospect NASA may have uncovered alien life on Mars. Evidence of liquid water on another planet other than Earth would also be the first discovery of its kind.
Members of the public are being encouraged to send questions to the press conference via Twitter, using the hashtag #askNASA.
NASA’s press conference will take place at its Washington headquarters at 11.30am EDT (1.30am Tuesday AEST).
