‘Nearly killed all of us’: man arrested after terrifying police chase on M1

A man has been arrested after a dangerous police pursuit of a truck on the M1 this morning.

The flat bed truck was spotted on Ewingsdale Road in Byron Bay around 8.30am, with police iniating a pursuit.

The truck – which police say is stolen – then turned on the Pacific Motorway, driving north in the south bound lanes.

A witness told myGC it was pretty frightening.

“Nearly killed all of us,” the witness said.

Officers terminated the chase due to safety concerns a short time later, before the truck was then found in Brunswick Heads.

Another police chase started, but was again terminated for safety reasons.

The dog squad and PolAir were called to help with the search.

The man was later found in bush land at a Wooyung Road property, he was arrested and has since been taken to Byron Bay Police Station for further inquiries.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage to come forward.
