New $94 million development approved for The Spit

The Spit is about to get its first new development in more than two decades, with the state government confirming a new apartment project.

Gold Coast-based company Gordon Pty Ltd has been handed the lease for the Village Centre South project following a ‘rigorous’ expression of interest process.

They’re planning a massive $93.6 million development, which will include 47 luxury apartments, retail and public spaces and a 52-berth marina.

It’s set to create 300 jobs during construction, and around 100 jobs once totally operational, according to the developers.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the news on social media this morning, saying the development follows the Spit Master Plan.

“We held a rigorous EOI process for the project, to make sure it’s consistent with The Spit Master Plan and the preservation of the area’s natural values,” Annastacia Palaszczuk posted on Twitter this morning.

“Importantly, it’ll adhere to a maximum of three stories or 15 meters in height.”

The Deputy Premier Steven Miles says they’ll be working closely with Council as well.

“We will be working with the proponent and the City of Gold Coast to ensure that this proposal adheres to the City of Gold Coast Planning Scheme, is consistent with the master plan and the preservation of The Spit’s natural values.

“This project will support economic recovery on the Gold Coast .”

Gordon Corporation Director Tim Gordon says the company has over 30 years’ experience in delivering residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects.

“As a Gold Coast-based company, we are very excited about the prospect of working with the State Government to realise our proposed project, being the first new development in many years on The Spit,” he said.

Construction is expected to commence next year and finish late-2023.

Superannuation for our politicians from developers greasing the palms of those elected to serve the community.

Exactly right mate! 👌

Luxury apartments to be snapped up by foreign and interstate investors, only to be rented out at rates beyond anything locals can afford. Dining and public spaces to be overcrowded by Instagram flogs. Increased traffic, inadequate parking and crowds. Quintessential Gold Coast as old Tommy boy would put it.

Well said brother!

I bet Tommy Tate cops the most heat over this from the ill informed folk even though it’s a State Government decision.

About time things got moving again.
Where’s the cruise ship terminal?

So much for the local resistance to such plans. Being a resident of this area and a regular user of the Spit I can assure you the community was vehemently opposed to ANY development let alone this circus which they plan to create. Once one is approved the entire peninsula will go under.
