New Amber Alert system to be rolled out on social media

Queensland Police Officers have been issuing Amber Alerts when they desperately need to find missing children since 2005, now a Facebook Amber Alert System has been launched in Australia.

The Australian Federal Police and Facebook jointly unveiled the latest weapon in the war against child abductions in Melbourne on Thursday.

Currently when an alert is issued, broadcasters play a special tone and read the information provided by the QPS.

Under the new system, notifications will be sent to all users in the area when a child goes missing nearby.

Recipients close to where the child was last seen will get sent an image and details of the missing child.

With approximately 15-million Australians on Facebook, the AFP says the application will prove to be instrumental in helping find and return abducted children.
