A vegan cafe is taking Melbourne by storm with their latest concoction, the ‘Smurf Latte’.
Made with blue algae, ginger, lemon and frothed up with coconut milk – this blue treat is all the rage and only one of a variety of healthy lattes available at the cafe.
If you’re into drinking your veggies, a beetroot, mushroom and even turmeric latte are among a list of colourful creations available on the menu.

While some may question the bizarre algae ingredient, the owners of Matcha Mylkbar in St Kilda say the Smurf Latte “tastes nothing like sea water or algae”.
“Our newest invention- the smurf latte getting so much attention. It’s clearly not a shy smurf! Made with algae- the most nutrient dense food in the whole world, according to some! Don’t worry it tastes as good as it looks- nothing like sea water or algae actually,” the caption of an image posted on their Instagram page reads.
When your hair matches your lattes ? Our Smurf lattes are packed with antioxidants and protein so if you’re tired or recovering from a case of ‘training too hard’ even if that ‘training’ is actually just sleeping and eating, this is the PERFECT drink to wrap your hands around. It doesn’t taste like blue algae at all, actually a little magical to be honest! Thanks @sigurrosie for the share! ??
