A schoolboy who stumbled upon a new species of box jellyfish in a Gold Coast canal has had the tiny-tentacled creature named in his honour.
Saxon Thomas, a curious child from Paradise Point, noticed the unusual looking jellyfish whilst fishing in his backyard canal in March 2013.
Thomas, who was nine-years-old at the time, put the jellyfish into a jar, and with the help of his father sent it away to the Queensland museum.

Scientists have now confirmed the jellyfish is a new scientific discovery.
The new species jellyfish has been named Chiropsella Saxoni, in honour of Saxon, to reward his curiosity.
