Australia has secured another Hollywood blockbuster, with confirmation the next Mad Max movie will be filmed in New South Wales.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian was joined by Aussie superstar Chris Hemsworth and producers George Miller and Doug Mitchell for the announcement in Sydney on Monday morning.
Hemsworth will star in the film, titled ‘Furiosa’, alongside and The Queen’s Gambit’s Anya Taylor-Joy.

It’s expected the movie will bring 850 jobs and at least $350 million into the local economy.
“But most importantly it reinforces NSW as not only the economic capital of Australia but I believe the cultural capital of Australia,” the Premier said.
“Chris [Hemsworth] who’s made Australia his home, he’s a global superstar and works here in NSW and I couldn’t feel prouder about him and his generation of actors that are really continuing to put Australia on the map.”
Hemsworth, who is in Sydney filming Thor: Love and Thunder, said he was happy to have secured another production in his home country.
“It’s such an incredible country, the diversity in the landscape, the amount of talent that is here,” Hemsworth said.
“Filmmakers and cast and crew that have gone overseas in the past are now able to stay here and hopefully that continues.”
It’s expected filming will begin in June and the movie is scheduled for release in cinemas on June 23, 2023.
Director George Miller said the film will shoot in a number of locations around the state.
“Without giving anything away about the story it’s quite a different film [to the previous movies], so it’s all over New South Wales, including parts of Broken Hill.”
