Bagnall was up against Councillor Warren Polglase, who also nominated for the position of Mayor, to take over for outgoing Mayor Barry Longland.

Councillor Bagnall received four votes to three.

This is Councillor Bagnall’s first term as Mayor, after being elected as a Councillor in 2012.

Councillor Bagnall is the proprietor of a Murwillumbah cafe and serves on several local boards and committees in the community.

“I would like to congratulate my fellow Councillors for supporting me, I hope to live up to all expectations,” Bagnall said

“I am a person of vision, drive and enthusiasm and I always give my best to the community. I will continue what I do with greater vigour.

“I am excited to work with the team of seven Councillors – and we are a team. The things we debate are a reflection of the community and it is quite healthy,” he said.

Councillor Phil Youngblutt was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor also four votes to three.
