New name and menu for The Star’s much loved Chinese restaurant

Further cementing itself as a heavy hitter on the Gold Coast’s evolving foodie scene, The Star has announced its Chinese restaurant Zen will be getting a new name and menu.

The much loved restaurant will now be known as Imperial at The Star, and is the seventh new venue the property has unveiled as part of its ongoing transformation.

The physical makeover of the restaurant, currently underway, triggered the name change and revitalisation of the restaurant’s menu that highlights traditional flavours, ingredients and cooking styles from various regions of China.

Integral to the menu development of Imperial at The Star is internationally trained Chef Song Yao Su, Executive Chef of Asian Cuisine at The Star Gold Coast. With more than 30 years’ experience, Chef Song has a flair for combining traditional Mandarin and Cantonese ingredients producing inspired interpretations of Asian classics.

General Manager Food and Beverage Richard Gush said that having Chef Song’s knowledge and passion was invaluable to the creation of the new menu.

“The new menu is expected to attract a local and international Chinese market, as well as a Western crowd with the best ingredients, sauces and spices imported directly from Hong Kong to be paired with in the highest quality local and seasonal produce,” Mr Gush said.

“Guests will be presented with unique yet familiar flavours as they’re invited on a culinary journey that challenges the way they view Chinese cuisine.

“Old favourites that will resonate with the Australian palate will appear on the same pages as the more traditional dishes on the all-inclusive menu that features an eclectic mix of flavours and fusion style dishes as well as region specific items.”

Expected to open in mid-September, the refurbishment of the venue will see changes to the furniture, new wall treatments, images and artwork, new host desk and beautiful new light pendants through the main dining area and private dining room.

Also set to open at The Star Gold Coast prior to GC2018 is a new Sports Bar, a cafeteria-style eatery branded as Food Quarter and two new bars.

“Imperial at The Star will be the first of five recently announced new venues to open between now and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and is an important part of the property’s journey to becoming the ultimate dining destination in the region,” said Mr Gush.
