New South Wales hits an important coronavirus milestone

New South Wales has released its daily coronavirus figures, with hundreds more infections, several deaths and a vaccination milestone.

There were 1,331 new local cases diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8.00 pm yesterday, as a result of over 120,954 tests.

Sadly, six more people have passed away as a result of Covid, four women and two men, bring the state’s total death toll from coronavirus to 284.

1,219 people are currently battling the infection in hospital, with 233 of those in the intensive care unit.

In some better news for the state, it has surpassed an important milestone today in regards to vaccination.

81.2 per cent of people aged over 16 years old have now received their first dose of the vaccine, while over 50 per cent are now fully vaccinated.

The locked-down areas of Greater Sydney have been promised more freedoms once over 80 per cent of people have received both jabs, which is now a matter of weeks away.
