The newest addition of Thor will begin filming on the Gold Coast next year with Aussie hunk Chris Hemsworth reprising his roll from previous Marvel movies.

Ms Bishop made the announcement from Canberra alongside Gold Coast MPs Steven Ciobo and Stuart Robert and paid tribute to their work.

Ms Bishop said that Sir Ridley Scott’s next Alien film, a sequel to his 2012 hit Prometheus, would also be filmed in Australia.

“We are here to announce that the Australian Government has secured two large budget film productions to be produced in Australia from next year,” she said.

“Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok will continue the super hero adventures but be filmed here in Australia.

“Also, 20th Century Fox will bring Sir Ridley Scott to Australia to film his next Alien film, yet to be titled.”

It is understood that more than $40 million was spent to attract the films, which are expected to inject more than $300 million into the economy.
